about

Matthias Schubert and Simon Nabatov have been playing together for close to 35 years, on and off.
Be it in quartet of Matthias Schubert, collective trio with Ernst Reijseger, Simon Nabatov’s projects like „Time Labyrinth“ or, most recently, „No Kharms Done“ (scheduled release January 2022) - the two always shared a vast field of musical sensibilities. No wonder that their duo enjoys great longevity, 22 years and counting. Many concert appearances and the CD „Descriptions“ (Leo Records) document the evolution of this duo. In 2020 the tandem released on Bandcamp „Fragment“, the recording made recently in LOFT Cologne.

The title of this release„ „Old Sins“, says it all. The recording fell in our hands quite unexpectedly, a fan of our music bought in Moscow this bootleg and let us have it.
We think it was recorded in 1993, but it is not certain. Also who recorded it and where remains a mystery to us. We only know that Stefan Deistler mastered it for this release.
The repertoire reflects well how we approached music-making back then. The selection includes 2 free improvised pieces and 3 tunes by Matthias Schubert.
Sins or virtues? We leave it up to the listener to decide.
